Day Three: Travel to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala

After spending a few delightful days in Antigua - with full intentions of returning one day - we drove further west about 3 hours to the Lake Atitlan area.  For safety reasons we hired a driver from the hotel and this way we could relax as we wove our way through small villages, up and down hills… As we approached the Lake we passed through the crazy busy town of Panajachel, which has been overwhelmed in past years by hippies who came in the 60's and never left. Totally touristy and "new wave" in a not so pleasant way, we were glad we hadn't booked a hotel there.

Our close friend and travel agent, Laura Schy of TravelStore Los Angeles (laura.s@travelstore.com) found us a small boutique hotel called Casa Palopo.  Located a short walk up from the lake, it used to be a private home and now has beautiful guest rooms, a lovely indoor-outdoor restaurant, swimming pool, and most divine an outdoor lounge area which overlooks the lake.  It even has a heli-pad for folks who don't want to make the 4 hour drive from Guatemala City airport, but prefer to helicopter it! We dumped our luggage, ordered a coffee, and sat down to enjoy the late afternoon view.

We could not resist this beautiful location for another Lindsay and Lace blogpost.
